Gambling In USA

If there’s one country which could give the fullest life to gambling it has to be the United States of America. They say gambling flourishes there. The industry has crossed the figure table and has reached among the top spots. The multifold growth of gambling is probably because of the fun loving attitude of the people and a decent amount of income to spare. The gambling scene is outlined by the very famous lottery games followed by the most happening card games-Poker and to fulfill the dreams of the less lucky, game with high odds- Blackjack. The casinos of the country can be just compared to wonderlands. Studded with lights and glitterati on the whole 360 degrees one can be just lost in the dazzle. Online gambling is also a super phenomenon in the US. The gaming freaks spend a lot of internet hours trying their luck at the pot-hole. Besides the tribal games found in the less urban areas there is so much gambling around the whole continent of North America that it can be conveniently called as the gambling destination of the world.

The gambling makes a person to wager against the house or the one who is hosting the game, but a different and much liked way of gambling is Pari-Mutuel. The kind of betting used in horse and dog races. The idea is to bet against the other betters. Thus the role of the host is gone and the winner gets the betted pool. This kind of gambling can be seen at the race courses. A game of Spanish origin by the name of Jai-Alai is also popular among the American gamblers. The points have to be gained against the opponents, some what akin to the rules of lawn tennis. The horse racing has seen galactic growth in America. With variations like thoroughbred racing it has gained the status of a festival in the hose racing events.

USA has provided such a footing to gambling because the socio-cultural impact of gambling has been cushioned by the better income levels. But another very plausible reason can be that gaming is attached to charity too in many parts of America. People of the community get together and they pool in to play. The main games in such occasions are the Keno or Lotto. It has gained so much popularity that the television programs devoted to these are shown rampantly throughout the country. The charity remains charitable is ensured by the boards and commissions set up to monitor it for the states.

Another factor that has popularized gambling in the USA is the variation of gambling –Riverboat. It can also be referred to as floating casinos and the practice is legalized in many parts of USA. The tourism attached to it attracts many foreign and domestic customers.

Gambling is not the best of industries in all the countries of the world. There is a kind of stigma attached to it. So is the thinking of many organisations which oppose the practice and the steps to legalize it. But despite the efforts, gambling has not lost its charm. The tribes play it and so does the metro-sexual. Gambling is all over and deep under.

Gambling Superstitions

Many times while gambling, I've found myself searching for subtle signs to assist me in making my next bet. For example, if I'm playing roulette and a person in a red blouse stands next to me, then I'll place an outside bet on red. If I'm experiencing very good luck at Blackjack and a less friendly dealer takes over the table, then I'll take it as a sign to move onto another table because my luck is about to change. Superstition and myth have always played a small part in the gambling area. From the common practice of blowing on a set of dice before rolling them, to the not so common practice of carrying a toenail from a horned toad, many gamblers believe that they can actually give their game play an edge by following irrational beliefs that have long been associated with gambling. While most gamblers have adopted their own set of superstitious beliefs and practices, there still remains a common set of beliefs that many gamblers have at one time or another adopted.

Some of the superstitions which are believed to bring good luck include:

- Carrying a four leaf clover.
- Carrying a rabbit's foot.
- Carrying a horseshoe.
- Carrying a personal lucky charm.
- Wearing a lucky item of clothing.
- Blowing on the dice before rolling them.
- Being well dressed.
- Crossing one's fingers.
- Stacking the gambling chips neatly.
- The color red.

Some of the superstitions which are believed to bring bad luck include:

- Breaking a mirror.
- A black cat crossing one's path.
- Walking under a ladder.
- Dogs near a gambling table.
- The color black.

While most of us at one stage or another have given way to the occasional superstitious belief, when it comes to the practice of gambling, it would seem to make more sense for a player to invest more time in the study and practice of various playing strategies and less time in the practice of irrational superstitious beliefs which may or may not work.

Gambling Tips

In order for a player to enjoy a more pleasant and memorable time at a casino, while taking precautions to minimise one’s losses, it is very important to follow a basic set of gambling tips or guidelines.

Understand the game:

This may seem like a very obvious rule, but you would be surprised at how many people place bets on games they don’t fully understand. This rule may apply more to certain games (i.e. Roulette) than other games (i.e. Slots), but generally speaking, it is more advantageous for a player to fully understand the rules of a game before betting on it.

Budget your money:

Place a limit on the money that you can afford to gamble with and lose. Never exceed that amount or gamble with money that you can’t afford to lose. Leaving your ATM cards and credit cards at home may be a good way to ensure that you won’t be tempted to exceed your budget limit.

Never borrow money to gamble:

To fall into the habit of gambling with borrowed money is one of the most serious mistakes any person can make. Not only can one run the risk of falling heavily into debt and perhaps having to sell one’s possessions to payback the borrowed money, but the risk of alienating friends and family members, or infuriating the “money lenders” should be enough reason to avoid this practice at all costs.

Pace yourself:

Avoid betting all your money in one go. Remember, the objective is to have fun and enjoy yourself. If your gambling budget is $50, then place bets of $1 or $2 instead of betting the entire $50 on one single bet, losing it and walking away empty handed. As long as the entire sum of money is not lost in one single bet, the player has a chance to win.

Know when to quit:

Always quit while you’re ahead. The best time to quit is when you are ahead of the casino. Many players make the mistake of thinking that their streak of luck will last forever and continue to gamble until they eventually lose it all. This is mainly the result of overconfidence and greed.

Chasing losses:

‘Chasing a loss’ is a term used to describe the act of trying to win back money that was lost during a previous bet. The problem with this is that the player stands to lose even more money. In this case, it is better to just accept the loss and quit or continue playing for the sole purpose of just having fun.

Maintain a low profile:

Whether you are playing for fun or money, winning or losing, always maintain a low profile at a casino. The main reason for this is that one never knows what types of unsavoury characters may be present at a casino. It is in the best interest of every player not to draw attention to his/her own money or winnings.

Emotional states:

Never gamble when you are angry or depressed. Emotional states such as anger and depression usually cloud a person’s judgment and impair his/her ability to play the games properly. A person who is experiencing an intense emotional state usually lacks the ability to think as clearly as someone who is not.

Don’t gamble alone:

In some way, it is better to visit a casino with friends or family members if you are planning on gambling. Friends and family members will usually tell you if you are spending too much, drinking too much or not playing properly. In the very least, it is in everyone’s best interest to have a sober person in the group who can safely drive everyone home.

Take frequent breaks:

As in any other activity be it reading, writing or playing computer games, one should always take frequent breaks to feel refreshed and alert. Although this may not apply to a person who places a few bets before leaving the casino floor, it does apply to gambler who intends on spending a considerable amount of time betting in a casino.

Have fun:

Gambling should be viewed as a fun and exciting recreational activity as opposed to a means of making money. Even though most of us have heard of, or read about the occasional gambler who won the big jackpot that changed his/her life, this is usually not the case for the majority of players. Let’s face it. The glitz and glamour of casinos were not built on the good fortune of winners. Therefore always play for fun and never for the sole purpose of making money.

Avoid alcohol:

Never drink and gamble. Not only can alcohol impair one’s judgement, but it can also inflate one’s sense of self confidence to the point where the person gambles away money which he/she would never have gambled if he/she was sober. This is one of the main reasons as to why some casinos offer free alcohol to their players.

Avoid distractions:

Distractions can come in many forms from the occasional cellular phone ringing to the sexy girl walking past the table, and one should always be mentally prepared to ignore them in order to better focus on the game. Additionally, the loud sounds and flashing lights of a casino may look and sound very exciting, but they are not there to help you concentrate on the game. Try not to become distracted.

By following these basic set of guidelines, one can enjoy his/her visit to a casino and have plenty of fun while minimizing the risk of falling into any financial difficulties.

"Las Vegas" - Gambling, Golf And Good Times

In my previous writings I spoke about my Myrtle Beach and Disneyworld golf vacations, which are two excellent choices for golf and vacation destinations, no two ways about it. I had been alternating between both places for about ten years and had some great times but we were ready for a change, for something different. Where would we go next ? I had always wanted to return to Las Vegas since my first visit there in 1976, but just never had the opportunity. I had stopped in Las Vegas for three days on my return trip home from my Honeymoon in Hawaii, my favorite place on the planet, met some friends there and had a blast.

In 2002, my 50th birthday was quickly approaching and my significant other surprised me with a gift that I did not expect, a four day golf trip to Las Vegas. Can it get any better ? I guess maybe a five or six day trip would be better but she wanted to make sure we did not go broke while we were there so four days was a good compromise. We were staying at the MGM on Las Vegas Blvd., more commonly known as "The Strip", where most of the more famous hotels in the city were aligned. From Mandalay Bay, The Luxor, Excalibur and New York, New York on the one end to Circus, Circus, The Riviera, The Sahara, and The Stratosphere on the other, and The Bellagio, Caesars Palace, Paris and Bally's in between how could you go wrong ?

Then there was the golf. Upon review of the available golf courses we chose three venues that we thoroughly enjoyed. We played Bears Best, a Jack Nicklaus design and who is my favorite player of all time, as some of you may remember from a previous writing, Angel Park, an Arnold Palmer design and another magnificent golf venue, which includes three courses, The Mountain being my favorite, and last but certainly not least is Bali Hai, adjacent Mandalay Bay, right on the Strip. Jacks' Bears Best course was designed by utilizing the signature hole layouts of some of his other outstanding golf course acomplishments to date and reproducing them in the Las Vegas landscape. The green fairways contrasting with the desert mountains and sand dunes in the background was a breathtaking site, especially if you have never been in the desert before. Angel Park was also very enjoyable and there was a great view of the golf course and a real green miniature golf course, (the only one I had ever seen) right off the dining veranda and the club house. It was a great setting for lunch as we took in the gorgeous panoramic view. Bali Hai was as exotic as the name exudes. With well over two thousand Palm Trees imported by the course designers, and many thousands of other varied forms of exotic plant life, complimented by the beautiful white sand bunkers, it added a tropical touch of the South Pacific to the desert, a unique and fun innovation to say the least. After 36 holes of golf at Bali Hai, my birthday celebration meal was a real treat. Dinner at the elegant Wolfgang Puck, "Cili" restaurant located right on premises, in the club house, at the Bali Hai golf course. The design and the ambiance of the restaurant and clubhouse was a continuation of the tropical theme so blatantly displayed on the golf course. Great food, fine wine, dessert and espresso with a touch of Sambuca to top off the meal, which included some live piano music playing in the background was the icing on my birthday cake so to speak.

After our dining experience at Cili's we headed to the casinos. New York City is known as "The City That Never Sleeps", but Las Vegas is the literal personification of that expression. We walked from one end of the Strip to the other stopping at almost every well known Casino in town and all the joints were hopping no matter what time we went in. New York, New York, MGM, The Bellagio, Caesars, Bally's and Paris were our favorite stops. I actually won a few grand at The Bellagio but gave it right back at the Paris, but you only live once ( or do you ? - a topic for another time)so having fun should be the priority. It's only money. Once you become enamored with the casino atmosphere and lack of daylight and get into a hot run on the Blackjack or Craps tables, it is very easy to transpose night and day. The hours pass quickly and I see many people having dinner at 5:00 or 6:00am and breakfast at 10:00pm or midnight for that matter. Since we were playing golf , we usually went to sleep around midnight and were out and about by 5:00am or so the next morning, which is when we noted the varied dining habits of the habitual gamblers and night time crowd.

As we strolled down the Vegas Strip I could almost feel the presence of some of the larger than life personalities who frequented Las Vegas in the 50's, 60's and 70's - Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy and the rest of the Rat Pack to name a few. I was especially reminded of Frank because Frank Jrs.' face was plastered on the big sceeen video monitor and he was singing all of his dads hits and doing a pretty good job of it at that. Wayne Newton has been a lifer in Vegas and is still as popular as ever. Las Vegas has perhaps the biggest line up of top notch entertainment in the world. Wayne Newton, Barbra Streisand, Elton John, The Rolling Stones, Celine Dion, Tony Bennett and The Blue Man Group plus the first class Magic acts and much more all entertain in Las Vegas. The list of famous Las Vegas personalities from the Golden Age would not be complete without including mention of perhaps the most well known and idolized entertainer of all time, Mr. Las Vegas himself, the veritable "King of Rock and Roll, Elvis Presley". His name is synonymous with the hierarchy of Las Vegas Royalty, they don't refer to him as the King for nothing. The list goes on and on, but just check on line if you are planning a visit and you will note a dozen or more top rated shows at any particular time you may choose to plan a trip there. On our next night we walked the entire Strip again (aka Las Vegas Boulevard) starting at Mandalay Bay and finishing at the Sratosphere. We stopped in a least a half dozen Casinos, including MGM, New York, New York, Paris, Ballys' and The Bellagio. The lights were incredible and the water light show in front of The Bellagio was most enjoyable and entertaining. It also kept me out of the casinos for a while longer and saved me some dough which made the time spent there that much more rewarding.

We revisited Las Vegas about four months later and we got some great deals on golf and hotel rooms. I guess they figured they should lower the rates for anyone crazy enough to play golf in 114 degree temperatures. It was tough I must say, but we played and still had a good time, wet face cloths and all. It was another wonderful vacation under our belt and they just keep getting better. If you're considering Las Vegas for your next trip, I can guarantee you won't be bored. It truly is the "City That Never Sleeps". You can get some terrific packages, both for golf or just to stay and play at the resorts. Las Vegas is truly the ultimate playground for the over 21 crowd. Happy Vacationing and Golfing To All!

Stock Market Speculation or Gambling.

Stock Market Speculation or Gambling. What is the Difference?

The art of speculating in one form or another has been around forever.

When it comes to speculating, there are always three things that you can be sure of – there will be always people willing to speculate, there will always be people who will love to play the game with the first group. Lastly history can be counted on to repeat itself.

Sure the object of speculation may change, the rules may change and the technology may change. But in the end it is always the same.

However what has happened before is 100 % sure to happen again. You can count on it. Everyone thinks always that they are so original when it always the same story again and again. Whether it is tulip bulbs, precious metals, mutual funds, lottery tickets or penny stocks human nature is human nature.

Ignorance, greed, fear and hope determine how people react and thus how prices move and markets behave. People have speculated on everything at one time or another,

For the last hindered years and certainly into the foreseeable future speculating on stock prices offers liquidity combined with legitimacy and purpose. Stock speculation, trading and investing have become an essential and vital parts of both our economy and our lives.

Trading is just another word for speculating and investing is nothing more than speculating, except that it supposedly encompasses a longer time horizon and for some odd reason implies less risk. Speculators speculate, trader’s trade and investors invest to make money. Traders buy stock or any other object of speculation because they anticipate a price appreciation.

Speculation and gambling are similar, with a few important distinctions. One difference is the perception, sometimes true, that successful speculators profit due to their skill or an unseen advantage, while gamblers prosper due to chance or luck.

Remember though that it may not happen to you but in the end given enough time or chances the odds will always prevail. The casinos in Atlantic City and Las Vegas were not built with winner’s money.

Another distinction is that gambling in most forms has been illegal (at least until government got involved and changed the rules in their favor) while speculation plays an essential role in our markets and thus our economy.

These important distinctions make speculating which indeed is what our investment industry purveys as an accepted occupation – indeed one with one prestige and gamblers not being accepted in the same light.

Whether a gambler, a trader or a speculator, in all cases the attraction is the same – the chance to make a lot of money in a hurry. It is the immediate gratification of the win that makes these games irresistible - an opiate of sorts.

Indeed problem gamblers have been compared to alcoholics in needing that rush which gives them such pleasure and serves amazingly to release endorphins to relax their troubled minds.

On top of that the unpredictability of the wins serves to even reinforce this addictive behavior.

Not far off of the methods of B.F. Skinner and the rats of operant conditioning fame.

Indeed some people will tell you that “it will almost always end with crying!”

Gambling Addiction: Hidden Evils Of Online Play

Online casinos and Sports betting may seem harmless to some, but for others it is tearing their families apart and causing many people to lose.

The Online casino craze is sweeping across the globe like the hula hoop did in the 50s, but the difference is that the hula hoop did not break up family’s and make them homeless.

Online Casinos have made it too easy for people to gain access to casinos. The boom of the online casino has sent the number of people with gambling problems skyrocketing.

It used to be you had to get in your car and drive to the nearest casino, but today all you have to do is have a half decent computer and internet connection.

The casinos lure you in with promises of free money, but most people never bother to read the fine print. This supposed free money is not free. Usually before you can make your first withdrawal you have to wager 10 times the amount you have accepted as free money. This means if the online casino you are playing at gives you a 100 dollar bonus you need to bet a 1000 before you can remove any winnings from you casino account.

Another reason the online gambling craze is becoming a problem is that more and more people are becoming anti-social and choosing to play casino games from home on the computer rather than having any person to person human contact.

Last year the percentage of people betting on sports and playing casino games grew by almost the same percentage as the number of people who went bankrupt and lost everything they have because of the online gambling.

Experts say this is no coincidence, and that this number will grow until the homeless problem in the United States hits an all time high.

One expert was quoted as saying that online casinos bring the temptation right into the home of the problem gambler. A persons home is supposed to be the one place a person should feel safe.

The online casinos are like putting a fully stocked bar in the home of an alcoholic , eventually looking at it all day and night the alcoholic will have a drink, and the same will happen to the gambling addict.

The only way to fix this problem is for the government to strengthen its online gambling laws and to fully enforce them with the help of the internet providers and credit card companies.

Another big problem with online casinos is that in the USA they are illegal and the average person still does not know that they are breaking the law.

The bottom line is that tens of thousands of people this year will lose their homes, families and friends from online gambling, with an end result of becoming homeless or requiring state financial services at the expense of the American Tax payer.

To cover these charges the government will have to raise taxes and force millions of Americans to give up more of their hard earned money to help those who have been affected by this online casino sickness.

If you or someone you know suffers from a gambling addiction it is crucial to their wellbeing that they get in touch with the proper help as soon as they can, this is the only way to guarantee them the chance of a better tomorrow.

Online Casinos & Gambling - Deal or no deal

Have you started trying new online casinos? Which one is the best and which you should not bet on? Choosing the best online casino is very important because you will be transacting a lot of your money. If you are new to online casinos and gambling, here are a few things to keep in mind:

First, it is very important to determine the security and privacy of the online casino. To determine how secured the site is, make sure to read carefully the Terms and Conditions of the website. This is usually located on Terms of Use section.

Second, you need to determine what software does the casino uses. As far as software, the most important qualities are fairness, speed, sharp graphics, user friendly, game selection and the amount of space used on ones hard drive.

Third, a good online casino should have a twenty-four hours and seven days a week customer service that would support the site's customers. It is important for customer to be able to raise questions, feedbacks and even suggestions through phone, e-mail or chat.

Lastly, before playing an online casino, make sure to know its Terms and Conditions. It is important to be aware that for every online casino you will enter, they are bound by law to publish their Terms and Conditions clearly. As a player, make sure to have time to read these terms and conditions before you start playing.

If you are a first time online casino user, it is very important to keep in mind that playing is a form of entertainment, this means that you have to be aware with your emotions but play with passion and enjoyment. Take your time and see what best suits you. Like millions of other players, you are sure to soon find out just how much fun online gaming can be.

Precautions to be followed While the convenience of online free casinos is attractive, the user should adopt certain precautionary measures. He should check the company's background from the history of payouts. A company that has even a remote indication of unfair means should be shunned. He should satisfy himself that the processes followed for parting with sensitive security information are foolproof.

In conclusion, one can say that the casino experience should be enjoyable and it is up to the user to follow certain basic precautions so that he derives enjoyment and makes a pot of money as a bonus!

Trading, Gambling & Las Vegas

I was recently taking a little R&R with my parents in Las Vegas. While I am not a big gambler, I thought I would do an experiment.

I decided to use the same rules that are essential for profitable trading and apply them to gambling.

Rule 1: Choose the right game. In gambling you need focus on a particular game that that is easy to play and understand. The same is true in trading. You should never trade markets that you don\'t understand and are difficult to trade real-time. I think alot of traders trade something just because it is popular. That is very foolish as you can have your head handed to you if you don\'t know what you are doing.

Rule 2: Choose a bet size that is within your comfort level. I decided on a bet(unit) size of $1. To some of you that may be small, but I chose this amount simply because it is nothing to me and I know that my emotions would not affect the game over this small amount of money.

Many traders’ downfall lies in betting too big!

Take forex traders for example, when they trade a regular sized forex contract each point(pip) is worth $10.00. If they lose just 20 pips on a trade, that is $200 and that may be way too big both financially and psychologically for the trader to stomach. As a result they start trading out of fear and anxiety and make a lot of mistakes.

If this sounds like you, then by simply switching to the smaller mini forex contract where each point(pip) is worth just $1.00 you may find that all your anxiety is gone and that you trade easily and confidently.

If you are a stock trader, you may found that trading 500 shares is way too stressful, but dropping down to 100 shares makes all the difference in the world.

Rule 3: Choose your \"windows of opportunity\" wisely. In every casino there are hundreds of slot and poker machines all trying to grab your attention to get you to play.

When I look for a machine that can give me a \"window of opportunity\" I have 2 criteria.

First, I only look for video poker machines because you can apply certain strategies that can increase your odds. Second, I always look for ones near the casino entrance area as these machines are often programmed to pay out more frequently so that they attract attention and lure gamblers into the casino.

Now in contrast, let’s look at how my Father picked a game. He had no rules and was sucked into the first machine that grabbed his attention. In addition, he would choose regular slot machines which didn’t allow for any strategies and would play machines that were in the middle of nowhere. Time after time he would lose all his money on these machines.

In trading you must pick your market wisely too. How do you do this? Only trade markets you can afford to trade and also make sure you understand all the rules and nuances of it.

Rule 4: Money management - Use a stop loss. In each new game I would start with the same $100.00 buy in which gave me 100 - $1 units. If I lost 30 units I would end the game and take a break.

Many traders have no set money management plan before they get into a trade and just wing it. You absolutely must know what your risk is before you enter the trade and use protective stops to protect your capital.

Rule 5: Getting a read on the game. I know from experience that when a machine is really hot I will be profitable practically right away and it will pay out often. These characteristics give me important clues to games that want to stay in until I hit my win target.

In trading what often happen is that when the trader is quickly profitable they get really excited and at the same time nervous. This is because they are so worried about losing all the time, that they get the overwhelming desire to get out of the trade and lock in some profit.

The problem with this is that they never ride the trade up far enough and to succeed at this game you have to fight the urge to bail out of a winning trade. You must learn to stick with a profitable trade so that you can lock in some big trades. It is the only way to succeed as it will make up for all your losses.

On the other hand, I would leave if the machine wasn’t paying out quickly. Sometimes I would sit there for 15 minutes and keep winning a few and losing a few. After all this effort I would still not be above my starting buy-in amount.

This type of game was a sure sign that things were not going my way and probably wouldn\'t do so either. When I am in this situation I will walk away. When faced with this situation the average gambler will convince himself his luck will change. This is rarely the case as the casino usually gets the last laugh!

In my trading courses I teach that if a trade doesn’t go your way within 5 bars it is more than likely going to turn into a loser. The reason is that there is no momentum. When you observe this type of market behavior then it is usually better to exit the trade and wait for a new setup.

Rule 6: Money management - Setting a stop win. When you are in Las Vegas everyone has the “Las Vegas Mentality”. They think that when they start winning that their luck will continue and they are going to get rich. This is exactly the stupidity that the casinos count on as they know the longer a gambler stays at the table the less likely the odds will stay in his/her favor.

It was interesting to watch my Father play as he has the “Las Vegas Mentality” and on many occasions he would have a nice profit and I would tell him to walk away. He would always say, “Just a bit longer” and I constantly watched him lose not only his profit but his entire buy-in amount as well.

When you trade you must have a “Stop Win” strategy. What this is is a pre-determined profit objective for you to exit at. For example it could be when you are up 5% or $200 or 15 points etc. It could be when the market hits a particular price level. For example, say you buy a stock at $10.00; you would tell yourself ahead of time that if it hits $11.00 then you are getting out. Your strategy cousl also be based on using a trailing stop.

You absolutely must decide what your “Stop Win” strategy is before you get into the trade!

My “Stop Win” strategy for the poker machines was 50 units. Anytime I was above this level I would simply cash out and take a break. For example, I got real lucky in one game and hit for 220 units on one hand and another time I hit for 1240 units. In each instance, I took the money and ran.

After 3 days in Las Vegas, it was interesting to see how I had a very profitable experience while my Father had the exact opposite. The only difference between us was that I had rules and he didn’t.

Make Sure You Take That Gambling Vacation

Until not many years ago, I used to reside just a short two-hour drive away from Las Vegas. It was no big deal for me to hop in my vehicle on the weekends and hit the Strip for a little while. I was able to gamble at whatever time I required, and I admit that I became a tad spoiled in that respect. After all, there's not anything like being able to play blackjack, craps, poker, or slots anytime the urge strikes! On one occasion I moved away, though, my weekend casino trips were no longer an option. As an alternative, I had to plan an all-out gambling vacation every time I required some action.

Being capable to play my beloved casino games simply while on a proper gambling vacation clearly has its disadvantages. For one thing, it meant that I could simply gamble once or twice a year while I had been doing it virtually every weekend before. For another thing, having to take a gambling vacation meant that I had to squander money on an airplane ticket, also on a rental car, and a hotel room. This was money that I couldn't use to stake at the tables, so my funding was vastly reduced right off the bat.

But I have to confess that gambling vacations have some really good advantages too. For instance, I noticed that I've turned out to be a much more careful and intelligent gambler. When I'm on a gambling vacation, I tend to be inclined to make smarter playing decisions for the reason that I need my bankroll to keep going for the duration of my trip and since I know it could be a long time before I come back to the tables once more. Another advantage is that many travel agencies now offer great deals to top casino destinations across the country and around the globe. One of the better ones is Make Your Bet also TWA and American Airlines are now offering really good vacation packages.

Not merely do they offer package discounts to some of the most excellent hotels and resorts, but many times they also add a number of casino chips or other comps to each gambling vacation they sell. This means that I end up saving cash in two various ways and can take pleasure in my gambling vacation devoid of spending too much up front, which I always find extremely nice.

If it's been a long time since you've experienced the thrill of having a large bet on the line, then I really do recommend taking a gambling vacation quickly. You can make your way too many top casino destinations for a lot less money than you think, which means you'll have loads of money left over to wager on all your much loved games. So if you love the roll of the dice or the shuffle of the cards or the spin of that roulette wheel, get yourself to Vegas or somewhere similar but whatever happens make sure you check out a gambling vacation package today!

Is Internet Bingo Gambling

Gambling is a legal and popular pass-time, enjoyed by people the world over in many guises. Bingo, like the various national lotteries around the globe, is considered a ‘soft’ form of gambling, associated with old ladies and church halls more than flashy Las Vegas style casinos.

However, with the surge in popularity of online Bingo, the question is arising - is it possible that the hidden danger of gambling addiction lurks in this innocent game, after all?

Recent studies confirm that the online environment makes it easier than ever to become hooked. Players can log on any time, because it brings the game conveniently to your fingertips, at home, at work - wherever you have Internet connectivity. And the online world never sleeps.

However, it can be relatively easy to work out if your gaming habits are healthy.

Compare the following examples:

An individual logs on to his favorite online bingo website daily and buys around 10 cards each night. His greatest enjoyment comes not from the games, although they are undoubtedly fun to play and he gets excited when he comes close to a win. However, he is mostly there for the social interaction he gets in the chatrooms – the busiest and most popular rooms on most online bingo sites. Winning is secondary, and not the main purpose of his attendance. He knows when to quit.

According to Wikipedia, the number one online encyclopedia, addiction is defined as “a compulsion to repeat behavior, regardless of the consequences”.

So does such an everyday appearance in the online bingo environment constitute addiction? The player interacts socially, and occasionally makes some cash, while buying a manageable number of cards that he can afford.

While it may be argued that he is ‘hooked’ on the time he spends at the online bingo sites, there are no detrimental effects to his home life, his finances or his general health and well-being.

In another scenario, a woman sits up late into the night, spending money on countless cards, which she simply cannot afford. Her late nights impact negatively on her performance at work, and on her family life. When she does make a winning, it only spurs her on to play on in the hope of an even bigger win next time around.

The difference is not hard to see.

According to the Australian Minister for Gaming, John Pandazopoulos, who recently launched that country’s Responsible Gambling Awareness Week, keeping the following criteria in mind could help players enter into the enjoyment of games such as bingo safely:

•Gamble for the fun of it, not for the money.
• Set yourself a limit and don’t exceed it.
• Don’t chase your losses. Walk away.
• Think of the people who need your support.

So it would seem that there is no need to steer clear of your favorite online bingo sites, as long as you are able to play responsibly, and quit while you’re ahead.

The ABC's of Gambling

Gambling is the general term for various games. Various forms of gambling exist, each with its’ own distinct history. Regardless of the type, however, gambling will always be an important part of history and all cultures, as a source of entertainment (and money) for people of all classes.

General Tips. Gambling, as they say, is a science. To win, you cannot rely on pure luck and a come-what-may attitude. You need to think, calculate, predict. And you need to put to heart tips and techniques that will guide you in your quest to win.

There are numbers behind every game. A person who predicts the outcome of a game with a mathematical guess gives him an advantage. There is a mathematical theory and science behind gambling at casinos. There is always a strategy on winning the game.

In gambling, there is a big difference between relying on luck alone and controlling the game. To gain the advantage over the opponent, a feedback control system must be used. Feedback means monitoring the game in front of you but taking mental notes of the results. Whether these are numbers and colors in roulette or the cards in a blackjack game, feeding yourself information enables you to analyze it and use it to control your reaction.

Online Gambling. Before anything else, always remember that online gambling should be fun and not hazardous to your financial status. To have the odds on your side and be a winner in online casinos, you have to stop being greedy. Think first of what you want to achieve before putting your money at risk. Analyze if you’re playing for fun or if you really need to win a certain amount of money. It can be both. Regardless of which, make sure you set attainable goals.

Of course, it is vital to know everything you need to know about the games you are playing. Much like it is foolish to invest in a business of which you don’t know the product; it is stupid to play something you plan to learn as you go along. Gambling is risking already – don’t increase your chances of losing.

Lottery. Lottery is an extreme form of gambling. Hence, it is difficult to cheat or guess the outcome in this game. While predicting the outcome in a lottery is beyond our capabilities as human beings, such may actually be easy for a home computer to process. While this is illegal in some parts of the world, software can actually be written to take in all past lottery results and predict the next possible outcome using mathematics and the probability theory. It will be based on the idea that recent numbers to come up have a very little chance of showing up in the next draw. Applying to compete sets of numbers (such as sets of 6), these also applies to combinations of numbers and single numbers. When all of these are put together, the computer prints out all the numbers and the most likely ones to come out next are on top of the list. However, even the most powerful home computer may take hours to produce results, especially when combinations are involved.

Immorality Of Online Gambling

The Dubious Immorality Of Online Gambling

The recent back-door legislation which outlawed online gambling in the USA has been championed as a moral cause. This is in direct opposition to a Gallup Poll taken earlier this year which found that 60 percent of adults believe gambling is morally acceptable.

Chief sponsor Jim Leach (R-Iowa) has called it one of the most important pieces of family legislation ever considered by lawmakers. Although by his own admission, gambling is not prohibited by either the Bible or the Quran, he sees a pastoral function in the new law, in that it will protect the rapidly-eroding values of family life.

Others see more of a self-promoting political function in the legislation, believing it was intended to gain support from the religious right for Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist if he decides to run for president in 2008.

Gambling in itself is not inherently immoral. Many people enjoy a flutter, spending a small proportion of their leisure money on their chosen sport, whether it be poker, football or horse racing. At this level, it is little more than an innocent pastime.

It can, of course, become an addiction which then has serious consequences. When money earmarked for family welfare is wasted on gambling then it does becomes immoral. But it is no more so than any other activity which diverts money from its intended course.

And if gambling is so immoral, why is Las Vegas still allowed to flourish?

One argument would be that it’s too easy to bet online. The convenience of online gambling is undoubted – that’s part of its attraction. But that convenience lends itself to unparalleled transparency. As all transactions are conducted through credit cards, it’s relatively easy to see who’s betting what and where. It is thus much easier for the industry to monitor activity and set session limits - on how long people play, and how much they lose.

Any number of arguments could be proposed and countered.

But the truth is that this is not about morality. If it was, the hardcore pornography that floods the internet from the USA would have been targeted years ago. Not to mention the illegal piracy market which costs legitimate business millions each year.

This is really a battle between the established land-based US casino industry and the offshore online market.

Given that most online casinos are listed on the UK stock exchange, it’s no wonder the UK is government now pushing for standardised legislation which will essentially give them control over the future of the industry.

The British view is that gambling is a legitimate business and while there are potential problems associated with online gaming, it is better all round for it to be regulated by government.

The US stance on online gambling is a smokescreen. The real reason the legislation was passed was to give control of US gambling back to the established land-based casinos.

But the UK and EU will not change their attitudes towards gambling, so the online gambling industry will continue to grow. Given time, US gamblers will find a way round this dubious legislation, even if it means opening accounts with offshore banks.

Which leads to a very interesting two horse race. The established US casinos, with the implicit consent of their moralising government, will soon launch their own online sites in a bid to take back control of their industry. In the meantime, the UK and EU based casinos will do all they can to entice those US players into defecting.

Who comes out on top is a matter for debate. What isn’t is the fact that this ill-conceived and hypocritical piece of legislation will one day be overturned and consigned to the rubbish bin of history where it undoubtedly belongs.

Gambling Becomes a Problem

While most people enjoy casino gambling, sports betting, lottery and bingo playing for the fun and excitement it provides, others may experience gambling as an addictive and distractive habit. Statistics show that while 85 percent of the adult population in the US enjoys some type of gambling every year, between 2 and 3 percent of will develop a gambling problem and 1 percent of them are diagnosed as pathological gamblers.

Where can you draw the line between harmless gambling to problem gambling? How can you tell if you or your friend are compulsive gamblers? Here you can find answers to these questions and other questions regarding problem gambling and gambling addiction.

What is the Meaning of Problem Gambling?

Problem gambling or compulsive gambling is defined as an uncontrollable urge to gamble despite the destructive effect of gambling on the gamblers life and despite feelings of guilt and remorse. Problem gambling tends to have a negative effect on the gamblers financial state, relationships and daily life. Severe cases of problem gambling can be defined as pathological gambling.

Am I a Compulsive Gambler?

1) Do you gamble until your last penny runs out?
2) Do you gamble to win back your former losses or debts?
3) Did you ever had to borrow money to continue gamble?
4) Did your gambling habit ever made you lie to your friends or family?
5) Did you ever skip work or other obligation to gamble?
6) Do you tend to gamble to forget about your personal problems or to celebrate happy occasions?
7) Does gambling have a negative affect on your daily life or relationships?

If you have answered yes on at least one of the questions listed above, then you have a problem.

Can Anyone Become a Compulsive Gambler?

Theoretically, yes. Any gambler can develop gambling problem regardless to the type of gambling he is occupied with, the amount of money and time he is spending on gambling. Researches show that slot machines that can be found in bars and convenient stores are the most addictive type of gambling activity, while lottery draws and bingo games are located on the other end of the scale. Gambling addiction is an emotional problem; its symptoms, causes and treatments are similar to any other form of addiction.

How Can I treat Gambling Addiction?

1) Group Therapy:

Gamblers Anonymous offers a 12 step self help program similar to the one offered to alcohol addicts in Alcoholics Anonymous. Group therapy also offers gambling addicts advice and support from professional counselors and other gambling addicts in different phases of their recovery process. Gambler Anonymous centers are available in more than 1,200 locations statewide.

2) Individual Therapy:

Cognitive or behavior therapy can help gambling addicts to identify their unaware thinking and acting patterns, which led them to gamble compulsively, and to replace them with controllable and healthier ways of thinking.

3) Psychiatric Medication:

It has recently been proven that antidepressant medications from the family of SSRIs, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors can be affective in treatment of gambling addicts.

Gambling Addiction

How To Identify Your Child Has A Gambling Problem

Gambling problems are no longer the trademark of adult addictive behavior; on the contrary, it is becoming an increasingly widespread and damaging social and health problem around adolescents. This article provides some useful keys to help parents in early identification of gambling compulsion.

Parents often feel that they know their children very well and that any visible sign indicating the smallest problem will immediately receive full attention and treatment, however, it is not always the case. Unfortunately, parents are not some super heroes with special powers because in most of the cases even a healthy communication within the family is not sufficient to detect a problematic behavior on time. The following points convey some signs that your son or daughter may have a gambling problem:

Children tend to tell occasional lies to their parents when they feel stressed or try to conceal something, but when these lies become inconsistent on a daily basis, it is a symptom indicating bigger issues. If a parent listens carefully, it will not be very difficult to find little inconsistencies in child's speech. This is the right time and place for the parent to interfere and to do what ever it takes to discover the source of the problem in order to find appropriate tools for its treatment.

Missing personal belongings or inability to cover regular expenses, which later on develops into borrowing money from family members or friends for gambling purposes communicate another warning sign of gambling addiction. Since not all teenagers work after school or have the ability to work, parents convey the primary financial source of all the necessities. Responsible parents, who keep track of banking accounts, usually know the exact amount of MP3 players or cell phones their sun or daughter have, what simplifies the "counting" process.

When your child develops drastic changes in academic performance and spends a lot of time browsing the internet, you have every right to question his motives. Our parents grew up thinking that gambling was wrong, but our children are growing up with gambling is as easy as going to McDonald's. For the first time in history, gambling is available close to home and now even inside of teenagers' rooms. Even the most caring parent not always has the ability to check whether his child prepares his homework or engages in gambling activities.

Mood swings and intolerance characterize typical adolescent behavior due to physical and mental changes, but when gambling controls these mood swings, it destroys any acceptable lines of healthy behavior. Teenagers become hostile towards their family members and friends so they would not have to deal with their problems. In more severe cases, adolescences commit illegal acts in order to finance gambling habits. These acts are usually followed by aggression and loss of control as repeated unsuccessful efforts to put their lives back on track.

When your child loses interest in other activities he once enjoyed and is preoccupied with gambling-related activities, this is another warning sign of adolescent gambling problem. Teenagers use money for gambling that was intended for something else or bet money they do not even have. This is no longer the issue of money when teenagers excessively monitor sports results or become overly excited at the outcome of sports events. They interpret the meaning of the word gambling as entertainment or a challenge and it is your job as a parent to teach your children the real value of gambling.

Parents should acknowledge the fact that not all people who engage in gambling activities are compulsive gamblers. In the same way that you have provided guidance on important issues in the past, you can influence your children about gambling. Developing a trusting relationship with your children, balancing their need for independence with your need to monitor their attitudes and behaviors related to gambling is a good start, but if you think the problem is severe, seek professional assistance.

Gambling Is A Bad Habit Hard To Break

Gambling Is A Bad Habit Hard To Break, A Habit That Can Kill A Marriage Dead.

Gambling is one of those increasingly common marriage problems that are often over looked despite over 50% of compulsive gamblers having been divorced. As with many bad habits, gambling has a real negative impact on family life with the habit often leading to serious financial problems as well as neglect of partners and children and sometimes proving to be a catalyst for abuse.

The National Gambling Impact Study Commission reported that more than 15 million Americans have a serious gambling problem often generated from boredom, a need for change, the adrenalin rush or as a result of marital or family conflicts. Gambling is becoming an ever increasing marriage problem and it’s a bad habit that has serious consequences with regard to family and personal life.

Very few people have any kind of understanding of the devastating impact that the gambling habit can have. Gambling is one bad habit that if it grabs a hold it takes over your entire life, wrecks you marriage, alienates your family, leaves you in financial ruin and destroys your life. Like alcohol abuse, gambling is often a root cause for domestic violence and child abuse. Gambling starts as just a bad habit, something that you do when you’ve got some spare time but it quickly worms its way into your routine and becomes and all encompassing and hard to break addiction that rules your life.

The escalating habit has been made worse with gambling becoming even more common as a result of the onset of internet gambling. There are now around 1,700 gambling websites all vying for business and just waiting to encourage more and more people into the regular gambling routine. Online gambling is a really bad habit to get into with the 24/7 access from the comfort of your own home, the loss of the sense of reality when gambling away money and the ease at which the gamblers can add more funds.

Research has shown that online gamblers are more likely have the most serious gambling habits / addictions and the families of those addicted suffering a greater intrusion into their everyday lives.

US Gambling Laws

The New US Gambling Laws: What Does It All Mean?

At the end of September 2006 the U.S. Senate introduced "The Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act 2006". It wasn't so much introduced as pushed through at the back end of the "Safe Port Act", to which some commentators have taken exception. This has caused a flurry of anxiety and (some would say) hysteria among players, website owners and online gambling affiliates alike. But what does the new law actually mean? This article has a look at the facts behind the new legislation.

The first clue is in the wording of the Act itself; it is an enforcement Act. In other words it enforces previous and existing law where legality of gaming has already been established as a matter of precedent, and also the legality and illegality of different types of gaming already existing.

I could do much worse than directly quoting the wise words from Cardplayers legal counsel. He writes that the new bill

"attempts to make it more difficult to get money into a site by forbidding US financial Institutions from funding the type of online gambling that the law has previously made illegal. The new bill does not make online gaming illegal where it was not illegal before ...The bill merely speaks to the mechanism by which an online account is funded."

In other words the Act attempts to hinder Internet gambling sites by starving them of funds, by ordering the banks not to allow players to use their credit cards to play at those sites.

There is nothing about the activity itself being illegal (where it was not illegal before). And clearly, if the gambling sites in question are offshore, then by definition they are not subject to US legislation anyway. So the only way to get at these offshore sites is through the banks and the credit card companies.

The article I quote from goes on to cite the significance of the 1961 Wire Act, which was construed to have made sports betting illegal, but not games such as poker, on the grounds that the law was never enforced with regards to poker in the ten years that Internet gambling has existed. Instead, the 33 cases which were brought under the Wire Act were pursued by "deadbeat gamblers" who simply did not want to pay their gambling debts. The judge on that particular occasion, Stanwood R. Duvall Jr, threw out all 33 suits, so ruling that online poker was not within the reach of the Wire Act's prohibition.

Now while the lawyers are busying themselves on working out the construction of what the new law actually means, it seems that players can make a few simple choices in order to protect themselves from what might be construed:

1. Open an account at an offshore Internet casino website;
2. Ensure the site is registered with a non-US company;
3. Ensure the site is hosted by a non-US company.

The vast majority of offshore Internet gambling sites still operate in US dollars, and they increasingly offer multiple currency choices. You can select which currency you wish to use before you play. Even so, it may be worthwhile remembering that, at the time of writing, there are approximately $1.87 to the Pound Sterling, and $1.26 to the Euro.

If the law goes further it may well be necessary to apply for a credit card issued by a non-US bank. But this is still something that is subject to speculation. We will have to see how the new law pans out in practice. In particular we will have to await the matter of how the law is construed and how precedent impacts upon it.

The Best Casino Gambling

When a person is new to casinos and the world of gambling, he will surely ask the question, “Which is the best casino to gamble at?”. Of course, there will be several answers to this question. But what this person is really asking about is “How will I know that he is inside a good casino?”

Some experienced gambling players will jokingly answer that the best casinos are those that are open twenty-four hours a day seven days a week: A gambler's paradise that will never force them to go home because it is closing time already. But in reality, this is not the main characteristic that serious gambling players look for in a casino.

There are two important things that experienced gambling players look for in a casino. First, they look for the rules of the casino games that they plan to play. Each casino has its own variation of rules. For example, in Blackjack, some casinos allow splitting while others do not.

The second thing that gambling players look for is the house edge. This house edge is that certain percentage that translates to the winning probability of the owners of the casino. This implies that a high house edge means the greater probability for the house to win. A high house edge lets the house win most of the time. Of course, with a high house edge, the players lose most of the time.

With a low house edge, the players will have greater chances of winning. The house does not win all the time. A low house edge means that one of the players can take home the jackpot.

The pro gambler, obviously, will look for casinos that have a low house edge. A low house edge means that the house does not have a great advantage. Thus, casinos that offer moderate jackpot prizes and low house edge are preferred to casinos with staggering grand jackpots but high house edge. The latter group of casinos is just advertising the grand jackpots as baits, but winning these jackpot prizes is next to impossible.

As for online casinos, the same characteristics are demanded: player-friendly rules, and a low house edge. For new online casino players, you may want to check out Gambling Online Magazine, which conducts polls among their readers to find out the best online casino gambling sites. The past winners of the polls of the Gambling Online Magazine included Intercasino, the River Belle Casino, and The Sands.

Gambling Addiction: How To Get Rid Of It

There are many vices lurking in the society today. One of which is gambling.

What’s even worse is the fact that people who are so hooked up with gambling have the tendency to get addicted to it.

Addiction is a serious social issue that society is still trying to muster. With gambling addiction, gamblers just don’t lose money but life and family as well. That is why it is extremely important to solve the problem.

In reality, there are available measures and methods so as to treat gambling addiction. Some of which are:

1. Through medications.

Usually, gambling addicts are treated through medications in the form of anti-depressants or what medical experts call as Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors or the SSRR. This medication has been proven to treat pathological gamblers or those who feel the blow whenever they win.

2. Through psychological treatments.

Most psychologists contend that the problem of gambling addiction is often associated with a problem on their cognitive behavior. Hence, it would be better to let the gambling addicts undergo cognitive behavior therapy.

In this process, the gambling addicts are taught how to get rid of the negative ideas and replace them with positive ones.

3. Through group therapy.

Group discussions are also effective in treating gambling addiction. Through this method, gamblers will get to interact and discuss their own personal problems that led them to gambling.

One great advantage of this therapy is that gamblers get to listen to other gamblers stories. They will be able to understand some angles that may sound just like their very own situations but were unable to identify them because of the feeling of rejection or shame.

Gambling addiction must be stopped at once. It has already dominated the society and even perpetuated the problem among college students. In 2004, the Annenberg Public Policy Center at the University of Pennsylvania has reported that 11.4% of their male students are fond of betting cards at least once a week. This was deemed alarming because they had only 6.2% on the previous year’s report, which made it an increase of 84% in just one year.

Moreover, according to the Journal of Gambling Studies, gamblers who are college students make up 1.6% of the total population. It may seem little at first but the fact that the percentage is gradually increasing is enough to cause alarm.

So, the best way to cure treat gambling addiction is to lessen the chances of playing. This is because the more people can play the greater chances they get addicted.
